Around 12 inmates from His Majesty’s Prison celebrated their graduation from the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus Lifelong Learning Unit (LLU).
They successfully completed various online courses, courtesy of professional development scholarships provided by prison officials.
These inmates are part of the “Seeds of Hope” program, which began in 2022 to aid in their rehabilitation.
Omari Philip, a convicted murderer, emerged as the valedictorian with an impressive 92.7% average in courses like Entrepreneurship and Crisis and Risk Management. Kenisha Wyte, a convicted robber, excelled in the Marketing course.
Their fellow inmates achieved commendable averages of over 75% in their respective courses.
Philip expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating that it instilled in him a sense of purpose and the belief that positive change is possible for everyone, regardless of their past.
Paula Lee, Executive Director of the LLU, praised the inmates’ exceptional performance, acknowledging the challenges they faced due to prison regulations.
