Minister of Public Utilities, Melford Nicholas, has announced that the Fort James Plant is now producing one million gallons of water per day.
Speaking with reporters during a tour of the plant today, the Minister said that the Fort James Plant will serve consumers primarily in the areas North of Newgate Street, West of the Friars Hill Road to include Mc Kinnons and Yorks, Villa, Point and Fort Road.
Minister Nicholas, also indicated that based on consumption patterns, the APUA Water Business Unit, can utilise the resources to feed the Upper gambles and Clare Hall areas.
A team of engineers was in Antigua in April to start the installation of the second unit for the Fort James Plant.
According to a release from APUA Corporate Communications, the high pressure pump, pressure vessels and associated control and electrical panels have undergone their testing and were successsfully commissioned.
