The University of the West Indies, Seismic Research Centre (UWI, SRC), reported a 3.8 magnitude earthquake near Antigua and Barbuda on February 26, 2024, at 11:15 am local time (15:15 UTC).
The earthquake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 52 km, with coordinates 17.66N latitude and 62.06W longitude.
The quake was felt in nearby cities, including Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, which was 65 km NNW from the epicenter; Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, located 85 km NE; and Brades, Montserrat, situated 97 km N.
Residents in the area who felt the earthquake are encouraged to report their experiences to the UWI, SRC, to aid in seismic research and monitoring efforts.
