Two Jamaican women are set to be deported following a shocking incident at VC Bird International Airport on Sunday, which involved a physical confrontation with an immigration officer.
The women, identified as Alicia Ricketts and Renea Nelson, were denied entry upon their arrival at the airport. What followed was a scene of disorder, with Nelson becoming increasingly disruptive while in custody, creating chaos with her loud and unruly behavior.
The situation escalated when Ricketts assaulted immigration officer Tiffany Ramsey, tearing her uniform blouse in the process.
Ricketts later pleaded guilty to battery and was fined $400. She was also fined an additional $500 for resisting arrest. Nelson, meanwhile, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was fined $250.
Due to the seriousness of their actions, the Immigration Department successfully applied for their immediate deportation, which was approved by the court. Both women are to be sent back to Jamaica on the next available flight.
The case was heard in District B Magistrate’s Court, with Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel presiding.
