Following successful negotiations, the St. John’s Taxi Association has secured a 10% fare increase for taxi operators serving cruise passengers this season in collaboration with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association.
This marks the first rate hike since 2005/6. Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez, announcing the agreement, expressed satisfaction, emphasizing the Ministry’s efforts to boost cruise ship calls in the summer season.
Vice President Andre Friday confirmed the implemented fare increase, applicable throughout the season, anticipating a positive impact on the local economy with over 700,000 passengers expected at St. John’s Harbour.
Friday highlighted the move as a means to foster fairness within the industry.
