Fitzroy Aska, a 58-year-old man, confessed to stealing three items from Perry Bay Supermarket, explaining that he was “distracted” after receiving a phone call from his girlfriend.
Surveillance cameras captured Aska placing a tube of toothpaste, honey, and a package of salami in various locations on his way out of the store.
Aska, who has a history of similar offenses, expressed remorse and claimed that he didn’t intentionally steal the items.
Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh granted him one final chance and imposed a $100 fine, which he paid immediately to avoid a one-month jail sentence.
