The government of Antigua and Barbuda has approved Dr. Sir Joseph “Joey” John’s proposal to acquire the Cancer Center Eastern Caribbean, following nearly a year of closure due to financial issues.
The center is set to reopen in February 2024, thanks to Dr. John’s investor group handling its finances.
The government will incur no costs, becoming a shareholder instead. Patients and healthcare professionals eagerly anticipate the center’s revival, spearheaded by Dr. John and supported by an American investment firm specializing in healthcare.
Immediate efforts focus on repairing essential equipment, with plans to introduce innovative cancer treatments.
The government’s decision to sell reflects its dedication to enhancing healthcare access, yet clarity on financial details and sustainability remains imperative.
