Churches should get back into the role of building communities.
And Reverend Canon Dr Stephen Fields, who was delivering the sermon during yesterday’s ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of consecration of the St Catherine Anglican Church, said that included fighting violent crime.
“I am glad that the Government has taken steps to address crime prevention, as that is an area that we are all concerned with at this time. The question is what can St Catherine’s do about that? The work will not be successful from centre; it must be decentralised across this country,” he said.
“The church is well positioned to help in this regard. We have an area and we are positioned to engage with Government on this issue. I believe that this church, along with those around us, be they Baptist, be they Methodist, whatever they are called, can collaborate to address the concerns that are affecting our children.” (Nation News)
