High winds in Antigua over the past few days led Celebrity Cruise Lines’ Beyond to cancel its call on Thursday due to safety concerns.
Unusual wind conditions, attributed to low-pressure systems in the Atlantic, prompted the ship’s captain to avoid St. John’s Harbour.
The Antigua Cruise Port confirmed the decision, emphasizing the prevailing strong winds.
The number of passengers aboard remains unknown as the ship did not dock and declare its manifest.
Antigua and Barbuda Met Office verified the uncommon high winds, which are forecasted to persist until Friday evening before returning to normality overnight into Saturday.
The adverse wind conditions also affected the Montserrat ferry’s operations, set to resume on Saturday.
On Thursday, Windstar was the sole vessel in port, with Marella Voyager, Mein Schiff 3, and Seabourne Ovation expected on Friday.
