Bishop Charlesworth Browne, the head of the Christian Ministries Centre, made this decision to ensure that godparents actively promote Christian values and do not conflict with parental guidance.
The church believes that marijuana use can have destructive effects, particularly on impressionable young minds.
During the session with potential godparents, a declaration is now made that marijuana smokers cannot fulfill the role.

While some Caribbean countries have decriminalized marijuana for medicinal purposes, the Christian Ministries Centre has taken a firm stance against its use in the context of godparent responsibilities.
