ST. JOHN’S, ANTIGUA (September 19, 2023) – The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is eager to continue promoting Antigua and Barbuda as a wellness tourism destination, following the recently concluded World Wellness Weekend. Plans are now in motion to further highlight the diverse range of offerings available to both visitors and residents in the twin-islands during Antigua and Barbuda Wellness Month in January 2024.
This will be the second year that the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority will host Antigua and Barbuda Wellness Month, and wellness practitioners in the destination are being encouraged to participate in the month by sharing their wellness packages and activities with the tourism office.
The Tourism Authority’s Wellness Pillar Lead and Director of Tourism (ag) in Canada, Tameka Wharton said, “The travel trends show that people are still travelling intentionally for relaxation and to improve their overall wellbeing. As persons begin thinking of their New Year’s resolutions and how they would like to ring in the New Year, we want them to keep Antigua and Barbuda top of mind as a wellness destination that offers simplicity, tranquil settings, a laid-back pace and incredible outdoor experiences with nature in local communities.”
Wharton was speaking following the wrap-up of World Wellness Weekend activities in Antigua and Barbuda, which the Tourism Authority and World Wellness Weekend Ambassadors Tricia Greenaway and Alejandro Leo have called “a resounding success”.
With numerous energetic activities held over the weekend (September 15 – September 17), the destination was declared a ‘World Wellness Weekend Champion’, an official designation granted by the founder of World Wellness Weekend.
The activities hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority alongside, World Wellness Weekend Ambassadors to Antigua and Barbuda and World Wellness Weekend Leader Keisha Schahaff, included: Tai Chi at sunrise, yoga at sunset, nutrition talks and tree-planting within schools, Socarobics in Barbuda, Pilates, Vinyasa flow yoga, and a wellness hike and scavenger hunt.
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is excited to bring these and other activities organised by our skilled and dedicated wellness practitioners to visitors for the upcoming Antigua and Barbuda Wellness Month.
Antigua and Barbuda Wellness Month will be an immersive experience with carefully curated activities that will allow visitors and residents to embrace wellness offerings in resort and also venture out into the local communities to discover new tours and join in on events that will ultimately enhance their wellness journey.
