A Meeting was held by Attorney General, Minister of Legal Affairs Public Safety and Labour Hon. Sir Steadroy CO Benjamin KGCN with officials from State Insurance Company to discuss plans to bring each government security body under one comprehensive insurance policy.
Department heads from the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force, Immigration Department, Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and The Her Majesty’s Prison where all present at the meeting where the necessary benefits and upgrades, were discussed.
Minister Benjamin believes that all security bodies that represent the government should be covered by a fully comprehensive insurance policy, so that they can be properly protected whilst performing their duties and in the event that any unfortunate incidents may occur.
The Public Safety Minister pointed out that Immigration department currently does not possess government insurance coverage and in his view no security body should be overlooked, taking into consideration that they provide protection for the country’s borders.
Various recommendations were made and personnel from the State Insurance Department were urged to provide and overall insurance coverage plan for the parties’ consideration. Another meeting is schedule for four weeks.
