Sir Leroy McLean, renowned as ‘King Short Shirt’ Emmanuel, was granted an esteemed Doctor of Letters honor by the University of the West Indies, Five Islands.
The distinguished ceremony unfolded during the University’s commencement event this past Saturday, where Sir McLean graciously accepted the honor, bedecked in the traditional regalia of red graduation gown, blue stole, and black cap.
In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Sir McLean conveyed his profound gratitude for the privilege of embodying Antigua and Barbuda’s culture for over six decades.
He extended his appreciation to his family, collaborators, devoted fans, and notable figures including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst, and Ms. Patricia Tully.
