(SearchLight)The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis (SKN) now has a better understanding of the cannabis industry of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) after an official one-day visit to this country, during which he visited a specialist medical-grade cannabis manufacturer.
Last Friday, Prime Minister Terrance Drew toured the CANAS SVG Medicinal Cannabis Farm in Georgetown, a specialist medical-grade cannabis manufacturer, which utilizes industry-leading technologies with in-depth expertise to produce high-quality medical cannabis.
According to Adelcia Connor-Ferlance, Press Secretary to the SKN PM, having recognised the potential for economic benefits and societal impact of the sector, Dr Drew intends to learn from SVG’s experience and explore opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
“St Kitts and Nevis is progressing towards actualizing its own medicinal cannabis sector and Prime Minister’s first-hand experience with advanced technologies, coupled with the exchange of expertise, is expected to position SKN on the threshold of a transformative journey.
“This visit marks a vital step as St Kitts and Nevis endeavours to establish its own robust cannabis sector, drawing inspiration and insights from CANNA SVG’s cutting-edge technologies and extensive expertise in producing top-tier medical-grade cannabis,” the press secretary said.
Prime Minister Drew and his Permanent Secretary Naeemah Hazelle witnessed first-hand the advanced technologies employed by CANNA SVG, Connor-Ferlance said.
The press secretary’s statement pointed out that “By adopting similar technologies, Saint Kitts and Nevis can elevate its medical cannabis production capabilities, ensuring high-quality products for patients and establishing credibility in the global market.”
During Friday’s visit to SVG, Dr Drew also met with Montgomery Daniel, Acting Prime Minister and other ministers of government, as he aims to strengthen bilateral relationships and foster regional cooperation.
During a stop at New Grounds at the signing ceremony for projects to improve vegetable cultivation management, post-harvest handling and improving livestock rearing, Drew told farmers their activity is “ not only to provide food but to help stabilize our economies and make us more independent as a region and as a people”.
The St Kitts PM emphasized the significance of national and regional matters to his office, and said Friday’s visit marks the first in a series of planned visits to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) nations during his tenure as the Head of the OECS Authority, a position he assumed in June 2023.
