Saint Lucia’s National Green Party (NGP), recalling that way back in 2011, it stood up for the rights of the LGBT community to exist, has nevertheless expressed concern over indoctrinating school children into alternate lifestyles.
The party’s leader, Andre ‘Pancho’ de Caires, observed that in standing up for the LBGT community when the NGP first participated in electoral politics, the party attracted ridicule.
But de Caires said the NGP supported human rights as guaranteed in the United Nations Declaration on the subject and was not standing up for gay or lesbian rights.
He said the NGP believes in equal rights and justice for all, regardless of factors such as sexual orientation.
“We believe that people should be free to be with the ones they love and should not be discriminated against because of their choices, as long as the relationship is between two consenting adults,” de Caires stated.
“Let God be the judge,” the NGP leader declared.
Nevertheless, de Caires said the NGP takes issue when the United States forces the same-sex agenda with little regard for local culture.
“We are a tolerant people and need no coaching from a country that has lost its moral compass,” he asserted.
The NGP leader explained that the real issue is the indoctrination of schoolchildren through text books.
He said those books have already reached Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
“We already have an anti-bullying agenda being taught in schools which is enough education for our children to learn about discrimination. Apart from that, we certainly do not need little children being taught about kinky sex in school or normalising alternate lifestyles,” de Caires declared.
“There is enough time in their future to discover these things,” he observed.
In this regard, the NGP leader urged parents, teachers and politicians to stand with his party to reject the forced agenda.
“We are asking the Minister of Education, the Teachers Union, United and Strong, the Leader of the Opposition and the Prime Minister to make a clear statement on this issue,” de Caires said, adding that his party awaited their response.
