DOMINICA NEWS ONLINE: The Government of Dominica expresses sincere condolences to the family of Dominican cyclist Bram Sanderson who lost his life in a motorcycle accident in the early hours of Sunday morning in Antigua.
This was according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit through a Facebook post.
According to reports from Antigua News Room, the accident occurred on the Sydney Walling Highway and American Road at around 3 a.m. on August 13.
It was reported that Sanderson, 30, was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.
“Sanderson represented Dominica as a cyclist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and in the sport of kayaking,” Skerrit said. “He was an all-round athlete who excelled in track and field and basketball.”
Furthermore, he said his government extends sympathies to the sporting fraternity and all who mourn his passing.
Meantime, the government also wishes a speedy recovery to the second accident victim, Dominican national Daniel Jno Baptiste of Portsmouth who is presently a patient at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center.
Both men were traveling on a motorcycle, reportedly from west to east, while a pick-up truck was traveling from north to south as they approached the intersection.
The Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene within four minutes of receiving the call. Still, reports are that the impact left Sanderson with severe injuries, and he died despite efforts by the EMS team.
Jno Baptiste was sent hurtling over the fence at Harney Motors and onto the compound.
