Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that over $2.4 million will be paid to police officers in Dominica for rest days owed.
He made the disclosure during a press conference held recently.
“Police have raised an issue with us in regards to their off days, that is, the off days that they were entitled to,” he said. “We have been having discussions with the Police Welfare Association, the only delay in that is because there were no proper records outside of the SSU unit in regards to how many rest days officers would have had, and so we come to an agreement with the Police Welfare Association where there we no recorded rest days, especially in the out districts.”
Prime Minister Skerrit continued, “And so the amount will be in excess of $2.4 million.”
He said those payments will be made at the end of May 2023.
Furthermore, Skerrit commended the PWA for their professionalism.
“This is good news for the police and I want to commend the PWA for their professionalism in their engagement and coming to the resolution in the best interest of their membership,” he stated.
