(DNO)Kisma Panthier-Jean Pierre, a Dominica-born teacher with almost 20 years of experience, recently opened a new primary school in Antigua and Barbuda called Mill Academy.
The school’s principal aims are to offer innovative educational approaches and introduce subjects not typically taught in primary schools, such as coding and robotics, agriculture, sustainability, journaling, and foreign languages such as Spanish, French, and Mandarin.
The curriculum also includes field trips and other experiences integrated with history, social studies, and math lessons to promote critical thinking.
The school is set to cater to students from kindergarten to Grade Six and plans to provide a well-rounded education, helping students develop a strong sense of self-awareness and the skills they need to achieve their goals.
While the school will initially have only eight students and ten teachers, Jean-Pierre is confident that the school’s unique approach to education will appeal to more parents, leading to more enrollments.
Jean-Pierre is an innovative teacher who previously gained recognition for her online teaching at All Saints Secondary School.
She also partnered with a former engineer from SpaceX to teach robotics at a summer school, where students built rockets and launched them into the air.
According to Jean-Pierre, Mill Academy’s innovative and comprehensive approach to education is expected to attract more students and promote critical thinking skills among its students.
