( Real News Antigua)…….The United Progressive Party (UPP) is extending condolences to the family of the late Sir Ramez Fares Hadeed, who passed away on
Wednesday, December 6, and will be accorded an official funeral.
Sir Ramez, the country’s longest-serving ambassador dating back to
1981, apparently suffered a heart attack. Reports say he fell ill at
home and was taken to the hospital, where he subsequently passed.
Damani Tabor, the UPP public relations officer, says the venerable
diplomat served Antigua and Barbuda with distinction, and his
meaningful and significant contributions to this country will forever
The State of Antigua and Barbuda remains in a state of mourning
following Sir Ramez’s sudden passing at the age of 80 years.
He will be accorded an official funeral and laid to rest next
Wednesday, December 13, at 2 p.m., at the Holy Family Roman
Catholic Cathedral at Michael’s Mount.
As well as having been a distinguished diplomat, Sir Ramez is
recognized for 40 unbroken years of community service and nation
building, and for his significant contributions to the business and
political landscapes, as well.
He was first appointed ambassador extraordinary and
plenipotentiary to the Syrian Arab Republic, the Republic of Iraq,
and the United Arab Emirates. Further, he served as an economic
envoy, promoting Antigua and Barbuda as a democratic country
ready to do business and build relations.
