Counterfeit currency is still being circulated in Antigua and Barbuda, with two businesses reporting to the police that persons have used, or attempted to use, fake money to obtain services.
Reportedly, the manager of the Central Marketing Corporation (CMC) made a complaint to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that a counterfeit $100 note had been received during a sale at the corporation.
Further reports say the money was received by a female cashier on Saturday, February 25, sometime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
However, the counterfeit money was discovered only on the morning of Monday, February 27, while she was preparing the monies for a bank deposit.
The police, who visited the CMC to conduct investigations, examined the currency and confirmed it was not genuine.
Meanwhile, a Bathlodge man was recently detained and taken into police custody after he attempted to use a counterfeit US$100 bill to pay for services at Mercedes Bar.
