The Chinese ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Zhang Yanling, praised the progress of the agricultural project by Long Ping Agricultural Group during a meeting with Agriculture Minister E.P Chet Greene and senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture.
They discussed the successful broccoli program, which has increased farmers’ income significantly and gained popularity among more farmers.
Extension Officer Owalabi Elabanjo mentioned around fifty farmers are currently involved, with plans to expand broccoli production next season to reduce imports by up to sixty percent, aligning with the Prime Minister’s goal. Broccoli, a seasonal crop, aligns with tourist seasons for optimal demand.
The project also includes other crops like sweet peppers, cauliflower, sweet corn, and tomatoes.
