Virgin Atlantic is planning to make Barbados the regional hub for its Caribbean operations.
This was announced yesterday by the airline’s chief commercial officer Juha Jarvinen, who is here for celebration of the 25th anniversary of Virgin Atlantic flights to Barbados.
Addressing the media at Sea Breeze Hotel on Maxwell Coast Road, Christ Church, Jarvinen said Barbados was one of the airline’s top three destinations to be reopened after the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the relaunch of the Los Angeles, New York and Barbados routes.
With the rebuilding of its Barbados network of Virgin flights post-pandemic, the airline was now providing up to 15 flights weekly from the United Kingdom in the winter season, 11 of them from Heathrow and four from Manchester airports.
“We have now started to sell the local sectors to St Vincent and Grenada, which is another example of the plan that we have to build Barbados as our regional hub,” Jarvinen said.
The move will enable tourists, Barbadians and other people travelling between the islands to have access to intra-regional airline connections so much in need at this time.
