The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA)Electricity Business Unit is committed to maintaining a reliable and safe power supply to all customers. Over the past few months, increased rainfall has accelerated the growth of vegetation, particularly trees, which can pose a significant risk to our overhead power lines.
In response, we have been intensifying our vegetation management efforts. However, our teams frequently encounter challenges with property owners who are reluctant to allow the pruning of trees that could potentially interfere with power lines. Trees that are too close to these lines can cause faults, outages, and safety hazards.
We kindly request that our customers be mindful when planting trees on their property and avoid planting trees close to utility lines.
Property owners are also reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure that trees on their property are pruned and maintained at a safe distance from power lines.
If trees on private property are found to be interfering with power lines, the removal of any debris resulting from pruning or cutting will be the responsibility of the property owner.
To report trees that are interfering with power lines, please contact our Electricity Fault Line at 311.
APUA remains dedicated to ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply
while working with the community to maintain safe and efficient utility services.
