Sports Minister Daryll Matthew called on Cricket West Indies to provide all-access accreditation to Antiguan DJ Nigel Baptiste, known as “Chickie,” for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
In Parliament, Matthew highlighted Baptiste’s contributions to evolving cricket entertainment from the early 90s, transforming it from “calypso cricket” to the globally popular “party cricket” atmosphere of T20 matches.
He praised Baptiste, who in 1997 became the first non-cricketer to win a Man of the Match award during a Test match in Antigua.Matthew insisted that Baptiste’s pivotal role and long-standing contributions warrant full access to the stadium without purchasing a ticket.
