The Leader of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has responded to criticism from the ABLP executive, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and tolerance within the Labour Party.
Browne, facing scrutiny for welcoming opposition defectors, emphasized that the party must remain inclusive and accommodating to all members.
In a recent statement, Browne stated, “The Labour Party must remain an inclusive institution. We must accommodate everyone who wants to become a member of the organization.”
He dismissed notions of exclusivity within the party, likening it to a church where all are welcome regardless of their background.
Browne acknowledged the concerns raised by some within the party about long-standing members using their position to undermine newcomers.
He stressed the need for increased tolerance and inclusivity, stating, “We can’t have different types of membership within an institution. We must be more embracing and inclusive.”
