General Secretary of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) Dr Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday reiterated his party’s confidence in winning the 2025 General and Regional Elections but even so, he assured that they will not be complacent.
“We’ve done all of our own polls, we can see where the trends are and therefore we know that the PPP is highly likely to form the next government but we’re not complacent about it,” he said during his weekly press conference.
“We’re approaching the elections confidently, not arrogantly,” he added.
The General Secretary along with other members of the party have started to outline several plans for President Dr Irfaan Ali’s second term in office which includes the provision of more cash grants, the rollout of initiatives to boost financial literacy and citizens’ income, investments in expanded infrastructural projects and much more programmes aimed at making the lives of every citizen better.Against this backdrop, he criticised the opposition political parties for their failure to present their plans for the people of Guyana even as they have made it known that they will again be vying for the seat of government.

“We’re not a party that believes that if you share your ideas publicly that the other side will steal your ideas. That’s what APNU said, that they can’t put out anything in writing, that the PPP will steal their ideas; I don’t know what ideas they have that we will steal,” he contended.
He also criticised political parties for only focusing on short-term plans, most times, based on unnecessary spending.
“Only the PPP speaks of a sustained plan because we’re the only party that has that plan.”
The 2025 General and Regional Elections are due later this year.
