The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda concluded his week-long visit to China on Sunday. Gaston Browne visited multiple places in Shanghai from Friday to Sunday, following visits to Beijing and Hangzhou. CGTN’s Wu Bin followed his trip.
The Prime Minister and his delegation visited China’s economic center from Friday to Sunday.
They first arrived in the Pudong New Area and toured the Shanghai Tower, one of the city’s most iconic buildings.
Completed in 2016, it is now the world’s third-tallest building, standing at 632 meters in height.
“It’s a pleasure to visit the Shanghai Tower, and the light show was absolutely amazing.”
Medical cooperation is also Gaston Browne’s focus this time.
He visited Ruijin Hospital and one of the largest drug distributors in China.
Ruijin Hospital is one of the country’s best hospitals and leads the campaign of establishing metabolic management centers around the country to treat chronic diseases, especially diabetes.
As Antigua and Barbuda are also facing the challenge of an increasing diabetes problem, many people in the delegation showed interest in the center, especially a non-invasive glucose meter developed by the hospital.
At Shanghai Pharma Sine, Gaston Browne learned about the company’s history, major drug products, and visited the company’s drug production lines.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne also learned about the city’s scientific and technological breakthroughs, especially in artificial intelligence.
On Saturday morning, he visited the Zhangjiang Artificial Intelligence Island in Pudong, an area specialized in developing AI.
Established in 2019, it has already attracted over 20 companies that are strong in future industries.
Browne learned about the AI applications in different life scenarios, like transportation, education, medical care, industry, and entertainment.
The delegation also visited a place called G60 Sci-Tech Innovation Valley. G60 is a highway code that passes through the Yangtze River Delta.
By creating the valley, it is expected that efforts will be connected and united in the region to make scientific and technological breakthroughs.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne also visited BYD’s Shanghai factory.
The company is a new energy vehicle giant and just overtook Tesla to become the world’s largest NEV car company in 2023 with 3.02 million NEVs.
The prime minister then sat in an electric car of the company and had a test ride.

On Saturday afternoon, Browne also visited the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center and learned about the institution’s monitoring and warning systems.
It is expected to strengthen its efforts in gathering more data and developing its environmental warning system.
Before concluding his visit in Shanghai, he also visited Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, known as COMAC, China’s largest aircraft maker on Sunday morning.
Gaston Browne visited the production lines of the company’s key models and also step on C919, China’s first home-made passenger jet.
