St. John’s Antigua. March 1, 2024. In observance of International Women’s Day to be celebrated on Friday 8th March, CIBC in Antigua will hosting a full week of activities to engage and inspire women.
Country head, Ladesa James-Willams said that after examining the United Nations theme for this year which is” Invest in women: Accelerate progress”, the decision was made to expand the bank’s activities from just one day to the entire week, to create more awareness to this issue.
From Monday 4th March to Friday 8th March, staff at the Old Parham Road branch will host an Invest in Women – Engagement Pop-Up daily for 9am to 2 pm. A banking team will be available to advise women primarily on budgeting, digital banking and loans. Women are being encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about these banking issues.
On Wednesday the female members of staff will participate in a Sunset Retreat.
On Friday, 8th March, International Women’s Day, the bank will present its second annual bursary of $2,500 each to two female students from UWI Five Islands Campus. The two students were selected as winners of an essay competition on the topic, “Her voice: How can women accelerate progress in Antigua and Barbuda?”
Also on Friday, the bank will present two scholarships to the GARD Centre. One scholarship will be for a student to enroll in the class for: Climate smart agriculture, backyard gardening and hydroponics, and the second one will be for a student to enroll in the entrepreneurship class.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Each year, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done.
In 2024, the campaign theme Inspire Inclusion emphasizes the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society.
