Dear Editor,
Calm, smooth, eloquent & steadfast are just a few words I would use to describe the Hon Anthony Smith.
As I listened to him as an independent MP delivering his maiden speech in parliament, my heart beamed with joy to hear him as a legislator echoing the sentiments with pride that the love for people come first, country second & partisan politics last on his agenda.
The Hon Anthony Smith’s maiden speech was profound, explicit & eloquent. He was filled with poised & certainly maintained a steadfast composure.
In contrast, it was sad & extremely difficult to understand as to why the UPP MP’s, walked out of parliament when Mr. Smith the honorable gentleman got up to deliver. Does that mean that UPP MP’s will do the same thing in the future whenever Mr. Smith rises to speak? As usual, they all displayed a character of political immaturity within them.
Interestingly, the opposition MP’s absence did not make a difference neither did they prevent the Hon Anthony Smith, the MP for All Saints West from delivering a ‘ time bomb’…… A nerve in Smith’s body was not even moved. His speech had everyone glued to their seat. He attracted everybody’s attention. All eyes & ears were fixed on him. His calmness while delivering the contents of his speech left everyone mesmerized, earning him a standing ovation after he had finished.
Throughout his speech, he was very emphatic to declare that he Smith, became enemy number one in UPP’s camp because of two acts percieved as grave sins he committed 1. Supporting Richard Lewis to become the leader of UPP and 2. Challenging the current chairperson for the chairman’s position.
Perhaps the third sin which was not highlighted, was his age. He was deemed to be too young to make such impactful decisions and hence should just tow along UPP’s party’s line.
Was he then nailed to the cross because of those sins? Oh yes he certainly was. Similar to our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ, Mr. Smith then unfortunately found himself carrying a cross of hate, anger & rejection coming from the hierarchy of the UPP organization.
For a peace of mind & mental stability and a continuation of working towards accomplishing his political goals, he had no other choice but to separate himself from the party which interestingly attracted an attack on his character from his former political UPP colleagues who now see him as an enemy. Now where is the Hon Richard Lewis in all this? Anthony Smith stood up for him will Richard Lewis reciprocate?
Clearly, the members of UPP are suffering from a political DNA deficiency which is definitely causing them to be mentally & politically unstable.
It is very strange that they have lost all respect for Anthony Smith and are now trying to destroy his character & end his political career at the same time but as Mr. Smith rebutted, ” they have failed & will continue to fail miserably”. I will add that if God is for you Mr. Smith, who can be against you!The same thing happened with Senator Dwayne George. His character was attacked left, right & center, after he made a conscious decision to switch allegiance & leave UPP because of a similar treatment. But as the PM echoed, ” that too will pass “
I will agree the manner in which the Honorable Anthony Smith cut ties with the UPP party could be a little more tactful & amicable but in life we cannot overlook that every action brings about a reaction and the energies that are given will be the same energies that will return. The bitterness & vendetta given from UPP towards the Hon Anthony Smith and others is unnecessary.
Should Mr. Smith stay true to his political conviction & remain resolute with the foresight of achieving his political goals, the people of All Saints West definitely has a treat coming their way.
The decision of having an alliance with PM Browne & his ABLP administration is one of the best decision the good gentleman has made for himself, his family, the people of All Saints West & the nation. It is the right decision, moving in the right direction.
