(Real News Antigua ) Almost two weeks after being granted bail on a charge of dangerous driving, and following the death, last Wednesday, November 2, of Kenneth Matthew, 21, Karim “Ice Cream” Edwards made a second appearance before Traffic Court Magistrate Dexter Wason.
The Police reportedly arrested and charged Edwards on Tuesday, November 8, and he appeared in court the following morning, November 9, to answer to the more serious charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
For this indictable offence, Edwards was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with a cash deposit of $20,000.
This matter has been adjourned to February 24, 2023, while Edwards, an accountant and the husband of a judicial officer, returns to court on January 12, next year, on the dangerous-driving charge.
His previous bail conditions – including the surrender of his passport to the court and reporting to the Langfords Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday – remain in effect.
Edwards was initially arrested and charged for the October 23 hit-and-run accident in which two American University of Antigua (AUA) medical students – Priyanjana Das, 19, and Matthew – were seriously injured.
Das, who had an arm amputated as a result, remains hospitalized.
