State-Owned Radio DBS is proud to present Bouyon Day on Tuesday, a day selected to promote and highlight Bouyon Music in Dominica.
Bouyon Day is scheduled to take place at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt for the entire day.
DBS Radio has been part and parcel of Bouyon Day since its inception and has played a meaningful role as it has contributed tremendously to the genre over the years.
“We were very much affected by the Pandemic for the past two years so the magnitude of the Bouyon Day was somewhat hindered to that,” Sales and Marketing Officer at DBS Radio, James Rodney said while addressing a Carnival press conference recently.
He continued, “So now we are here in 2023 and we are going to start back strong with Bouyon Day on February 14th…it’s also Valentine’s Day.”
Rodney continued, “And we know that Valentine’s Day is the day when we celebrate love. So why not give some love to the Bouyon.”
According to him, “We are going to do it big for the love of Bouyon.”
Furthermore, Rodney stated that the public should look forward to entertainment and programming from DBS Radio from the stadium forecourt.
“We are going to be taking all our programming from the studio to the forecourt on Bouyon Day to really bring that energy, that vibe, that awareness Bouyon has brought to so many of us over the years,” he revealed.
Rodney pointed out that one cannot deny that the Bouyon rhythm is infectious and without it, “what is Carnival?”
He said DBS Radio will continue to bring that awareness and highlight the pioneers of the genre.
“If we look at it from the historic standpoint Bouyon music has been with us for the past 40 years and many of us growing up don’t even know that, so DBS is going to bring that historic element about the genre, where it started, how it came about and the people who played a role in making Bouyon music what it is today,” he explained.
He invites members of the public to come to the stadium forecourt on Bouyon Day for their snacks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, “or just to chill out and have a drink.”
Vendors who are interested in setting up a bar or stall are asked to contact DBS Radio.
Entertainment is expected from Bouyon rising stars, the reigning Junior Bouyon Monarch along with the other Junior Bouyon competitors.
Rodney said the event will culminate with some big hitters of Bouyon music, “the rhythm providers for the Carnival season.”
