UNC accuses AG of stalling

IN the face of calls to hold his hand on controversial legislation that proposes pension hikes and which impacts freedom of information, Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi was accused yesterday of dragging his feet on piloting the Bill.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said this was a delaying tactic, a slap in the face and an insult to the people of the country and she intends to file amendments to have the contentious clauses deleted.

Parliament proceedings were observed with interest, especially what Government would do, given public objection to The Miscellaneous Provisions (Tax Amnesty, Pensions, Freedom of Information, National Insurance, Central Bank and Non-Profit Organisations) Bill, 2019.

However, hours passed and night came with no debate.
