Two young women are now closer to achieving their dreams thanks to the Rotary Club of Barbados West.
Yesterday, the club presented 19-year-old Jacqueline Ford and 18-year-old Niann Thompson with $15 000 scholarships each – $5 000 a year for three years.
Chairman of the club’s scholarship committee Frank Hunte said the scholarship programme was established 18 years ago to provide financial assistance to deserving and needy Barbadians who would not otherwise be able to obtain an undergraduate education.
He said it was done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Diamonds International, the Sandy Lane Golf Classic and “corporate and individual” contributors.
The presentation was made yesterday in the Media Resource Department of the Minister of Education, Constitution Road, St Michael. Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw thanked the club for its continuing efforts.
