Talk spread like wildfire on Sunday that assassins had come in search of community leader Cedric “Burkie” Burke at his Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots home.
This after gunmen opened fire in the area at around 3pm.
When contacted, a woman who identified herself as his wife, said she was “scared.”
Asked if gunmen had come in search of Burke, she said “ I don’t know. Burke will have to answer it himself. He just walked out of the house. He is normal.”
When the Express visited the Sea Lots community yesterday afternoon, residents were tight-lipped on what had transpired, claiming they had no knowledge on whether community leader Cedric “Burkie” Burke was one of the intended targets.
Burke was not seen in the area at the time when news crews arrived, nor could anyone account for his whereabouts.
The incident took place around 3 p.m., ending in the death of 38-year-old Ronald Joseph, who lived at Pioneer Drive.
Recounting the moment she heard the gunshots yesterday, Burke’s wife said “I was in my bed lying down with my daughter and the baby. He is a year. I heard the bawling. A gunman was outside. Shooting up the place. My daughter and I ran outside to secure the children. We wanted to make sure they were safe.”
She added “ My little son is eight. My other son is five. My big son, 19, was also outside. He ran too. I don’t know where he ran to. I was frightened. I am a peaceful person.”
