Over four thousand students from twenty- eight Government Primary Schools are the recipients of school supplies resulting from a collaboration between the Rotary Club of Antigua and the Antigua and Barbuda Students Association.
The distribution took place over the past week, with students receiving items to include: exercise books, pens, pencils, school back packs, colouring books, crayons, markers, hand sanitizers, erasers and special needs kits.
The students who benefited from the initiative range from kindergarten to Grade 6. Additionally, through the partnership, the Rotary Club of Antigua and the Antigua Barbuda Student Association made a presentation of Mathematics Learning Kits to the Education Officer for Special Needs Education and Special Education Teacher, Ayanna Shadrach and Joy-Ann Harrigan respectively. The senior educators are both attached to the Ministry of Education.
The kits will assist Special Education teachers in the area of Mathematics, to ensure that students will be adequately equipped to excel and grasp key concepts in the area.
President of the Rotary Club of Antigua, Joanna Spencer, noted that basic education and increasing literacy across the twin island state is one of the focus areas of the philanthropic organization. In this regard she added that the Club is committed to giving back to the community in various areas.
