Reports of an oil leak sited in the Yorks area was brought
to the attention of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) yesterday, Tuesday November 10th, 2020.
Following an investigation carried out at the Friar’s Hill Power Plant by the APUA Electricity Business Unit, it was discovered that the leak originated from an old storage tank that became dislodged as a result of the flow of water from recent heavy rainfall.
The oil from the decommissioned facility has not infiltrated any major water ways. Experts have been contacted by the Authority to assist in the removal of the oil when the area has dried and the disposal of
residual oil from the storage tank.
APUA reassures customers that the minor leak poses no threat to lives or the environment and is making every effort to remedy the issue in the shortest time possible.
