PM: Bim safe despite crime

DESPITE CONCERNS over illegal guns and shootings, Barbados remains a safe place, with some of the Caribbean’s lowest violent crime and murder rates.

That was the message Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley put forward Sunday afternoon at a Brooklyn town hall meeting attended by hundreds of Bajans assembled at the Kingsborough Community College.

“This is not a Barbados problem,” she said of the gun issue.

Calling it a global challenge which she might tackle when she addresses the United Nations General Assembly later this week, Mottley focused attention on the homicide rates of several CARICOM countries, which she said were far higher than Barbados’.
