Another Government pay day is around the corner for individuals and corporate entities, including Barbadians owed nearly $68 million in income tax refunds.
The Nation has learnt this is part of an effort by the Mia Mottley administration to settle $200 million in outstanding domestic debts in the next nine months or less.
The funds to be distributed in the coming weeks and months are on top of millions of dollars in arrears already cleared in recent months, a senior Government official confirmed.
The official revealed that during the latest Social Partnership meeting, held last Monday, private sector representatives raised questions about outstanding monies due from Government.
After being asked by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mia Amor Mottley to report on the matter, Director of Finance and Economic Affairs Ian Carrington informed them that substantial payments had already been made and more were to come.
Meeting attendees were informed that in the last three months, Government paid people “substantial sums” of money.
