Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal says he has communicated to the police, an “act of terror” against him in the form of a social media post stating the imminent arrest of himself and former HDC managing director Jearlean John.
According to Moonilal, the post by the site, 4TT news, was drawn to his attention by a colleague, early on Independence Day.
It read: “Breaking: Imminent arrests of former Housing Minister Roodal Moonilal and former HDC Managing Director Jearlean John.”
In a response yesterday, Moonilal said this caused immeasurable trauma to his family, friends and constituents.
“This, I believe, is an act of terror calculated to serve several purposes,” Moonilal said.
He continued: “Interestingly, 4TT news did not get the “zepo” when Marlene McDonald and others were arrested.”
While not pointing fingers directly, he said the post was a desperate act of terror by political enemies. He said it was noteworthy that it came in the same week that he exposed the “failed PNM regime” on several critical governance issues. He believes that while he is fair game in the political arena, the accusation is aimed at destabilising him and curbing his disclosures on public platforms.
“But I assure the nation that I would continue to expose the wrongdoings of the current administration. This type of posting is calculated to sow the seeds of distrust and undermine my credibility and integrity. I remind the national community that a few years ago, my political enemies paid for a YouTube ad to claim that I was the “3rd richest man in T&T.” A dastardly and scandalous allegation that was reported to the police but which also placed my family and me in a dire security quandary. I had to take extra and all precautions to protect my family from criminal elements.”
He said such terror was also calculated to put pressure on the police with the hope that something can be manufactured to have him arrested. However, he expressed faith that the police would not yield to pressure. He also urged “mischief makers” to desist from inaccurate and disruptive activities and to permit the political discourse to be based on policy proposals.
