Health Minister Molwyn Joseph says he intends to consult widely with business owners with regards to determining the level of tax to be put on sugary beverages.
The government is hoping to use the imposition of a tax on sugary beverages as a way of combatting increasing rates of obesity in the country.
Minister Joseph said, the government will dialogue with business owners before implementing the tax.
The Health Minister said that the government has been successful with the banning of plastics and Styrofoam due to the extensive collaboration with the business community.
Obesity is a major problem in the Caribbean.
