Highway headache

THE GOVERNMENT will have to pay millions of dollars for properties which are no longer required for construction of the highway extension to Point Fortin.

This was disclosed yesterday by Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan, who said land acquisitions by the previous administration led to this predicament.

He said a report with a list of recommendations to bring clarity to the land acquisition policy for payment of outstanding compensation to people affected by land acquisition in the area will be considered by Cabinet today.

Sinanan was speaking during the sod-turning ceremony for three phases of the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin.
