Businesses which use and distribute plastic bags are being warned to learn from those struggling to get rid of thousands of dollars of banned single-use plastics.
The caution has come from Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Elsworth Reid.
In an exclusive interview with THE NATION yesterday, Reid said those who used plastic bags should be seeking to get rid of their stock now, with the ban scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2020.
His comments came in the wake of suppliers like Direct Packaging, lamenting that they had more than $80 000 in stock on their hands that had now become illegal to sell. Some food vendors had also called for the ban to be put back again as far as year-end.
