Drugs still bad, warns magistrate

The proposed decriminalisation of small quantities of marijuana has been given the thumbs down by Barbados’s Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes.

He believes it will give the voluntary idle more excuses to smoke the still illegal substance, while destroying the black race.

The Chief Magistrate’s comments came as he dealt with two men who were before him in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Jamar Ramario Hurley, 27, of Sion Hill, St James, and Shawn Orlando Forde, of College Drive, Oldbury, St Philip, had just pleaded guilty to possession, trafficking and possession of $11 600 worth of cannabis with intent to supply on September 23. The matter was prosecuted by Sergeant Edwin Pinder. (HLE)
