Three organisations have benefitted form contributions from CIBC Caribbean during the celebrations for International Women’s Day, observed worldwide on 8th March every year.
The bank’s country head, Ladesa James-Williams said the bank decided to follow this year’s theme and spread out our involvement as we celebrate our women and girls.
“We decided to spread our wings and assist and celebrate our young girls and women,” she said.
The bank first made a contribution of $1500 towards the WOW(Women of Wadadli) & Wa’Omoni Awards, honouring outstanding women.
On Wednesday 6th March, two female students at UWI Five Islands received bursaries valued at $2,500 each. The bursary programme with UWI FI began in 2023. This year the female students were selected based on an essay competition launched by the university to select the top two entries for the bursaries. The theme of the essay was IWD, Accelerate Action. The two winning essays were penned by Makkedah Lawrence and Zalika Fields.

The next contribution was made to the Salvation Army’s Sunshine Home for Girls with a donation of personal care items. Speaking at that presentation the banks’ country head said that the IWD’s theme of Accelerate Action, reminds everyone that steps must be taken daily to create a future where every girl has the opportunity, resources and support to thrive.
She added, “We at CIBC Caribbean pursue a culture of care for our society and we are happy to join with the Salvation Army in empowering the girls at the Sunshine Home for Girls to build confidence in pursuing their dreams.”
Meanwhile, the head of the Salvation Army in the country Major Raymoncil Pierre thanked CIBC Caribbean for always supporting the projects being undertaken by the religious institution.
“CIBC is always first onboard with regards to our Christmas Kettle and for that we are very grateful”, he said.

The bank’s celebration of International Women’s Day also included a traditional high tea for the female staff. This year it was hosted at Weatherill’s and the country head’s special guests of honour were Elyze M. Henry and Naliyah C. A. Lewis, 2024’s top students in the Grade 6 national exams.
