Beaches to be Closed For Upcoming Public Holiday

The Antigua and Barbuda Cabinet has received an update on the Covid-19 Pandemic in the country. No new cases of infection have been reported in the last 48 hours, and the number of people being actively treated for the disease is down to 6. Three index cases all had clusters resulting from quarantined and isolated persons disobeying the terms of their 14-day confinement. Halcyon remains the government’s quarantine center until the repairs at the former air force base are completed. The Coast Guard is being activated to prevent parties from being held on offshore islands on weekends, where videos have shown men and women blatantly disobeying the rules intended to keep the population safe. Vigilance by all, including the residents and visiting populations, are encouraged; all are to continue wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and sanitizing hands as frequently as possible. The law dictates that beaches are closed on public holidays. Next Monday, November 2, 2020, a public holiday, the beaches will be closed for public use.
