The Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute’s 2019 Events and Conference Class was given a task by their lecturer, Mrs. Walsh Palmer, to host a fundraising event. Two classes were divided into groups of four. Each group selected and executed events such as an Artisan Marketplace, Movie Night, Football Tournament and a Poetry Night.

With all of the efforts combined the class was able to raise an outstanding amount of funds. The students raised over $5000.00!! A decision was taken to make a charitable donation. ABHTI student, Kenisha Carr, who previously had a positive experience with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the MSJMC and recommended that the funds be used towards the needs of the NICU. After much communication with the NICU team, the unit’s needs were established and the students purchased the items. Much of the items were purchased overseas, shipped and cleared duty free. Items donated were, wipes, pampers, electric kettles, breast pumps (both manual and electric).

All items were handed over to Consultant Pediatrician, Dr. Claudine Richardson and Nurse Manager of the NICU, Zena Knight Barnes at a ceremony hosted by the students at ABHTI.
