18 Venezuelans caught sneaking in T&T, via Carenage

18 Venezue­lan na­tion­als in­clud­ing three chil­dren were de­tained by po­lice try­ing to en­ter the coun­try il­le­gal­ly by boat in Care­nage ear­ly this morn­ing.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors told Guardian Me­dia the Venezue­lans from Guiria were held near the Smith Hill area in Care­nage around 5:35 am.

Of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion in­ter­cept­ed the ves­sel and de­tained the mi­grants.

The nine males seen in a What­sApp video cir­cu­lat­ing were made to lie on their stom­achs while the six women and three chil­dren stood near­by.

Po­lice have since called in im­mi­gra­tion of­fi­cials who are ex­pect­ed to ques­tion the Venezue­lan na­tion­als.

Sources say they are ex­pect­ed to be de­port­ed soon.
