Young woman found at scene of Finch’s homicide is charged with her murder, following fresh psychiatric evaluation

A murder charge reportedly has been laid against Brittany Jno-Baptiste, the young woman now accused of killing Jane Finch.

State media is reporting that the Police charged Jno-Baptiste with the capital offence on Thursday morning, August 4, and that she also faces a burglary charge in relation to the same incident.

Before the Police responded to a distress call and discovered Finch dead on her living room floor, she had made a Facebook post indicating that a deranged woman was trying to gain access to her Piccadilly home. Jno-Baptiste was found inside the house.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on the body of the 66-year-old Finch on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, and concluded that had died as a result of trauma consistent with a beating.

Following the homicide, the young woman was remanded on a burglary charge as investigations into Finch’s death continued.

Since then, the 21-year-old Jno-Baptiste had been undergoing psychiatric evaluation to determine whether she was fit to be charged for murder and stand trial for the October 4, 2021 offence.

Sources say that a fresh psychiatric evaluation has been released. It reportedly follows one undertaken in 2021, which had concluded that Jno-Baptiste was unfit to stand trial at that time.
