Workers are being urged to speak up on issues affecting them.
This plea has come from Minister of Labour Colin Jordan who recognised that in a climate where layoffs have become widespread across both the public and private sector, some people were afraid to speak out on issues for fear of losing their jobs.
“I as minister understand that fear. I would want to say to people, though, that they can rely on the Labour Department for assistance in manoeuvring in those situations,” he assured.
Jordan was speaking at the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) May Day celebrations at Solidarity House yesterday.
