Top Colombian officials for Jamaica ganja conference

Colombian Senator, Juan Galan, and President of Colombia’s National Narcotics Fund, Dr Andres Lopez, are among a raft of high-level speakers for the CANEX Business Conference and Expo at the Montego Bay Convention Centre this week.

Senator Galan, a member of Colombia’s Liberal Party, is the son and political heir of assassinated 1990 Colombian presidential candidate, Luis Galan.

The assassination of the elder Galan, who brought to global light increasing drug related violence and Cartel leaders like the late Pablo Escobar who ordered his assassination.

Senator Galán strongly supports drug liberalisation policies, both to decriminalise and to legalise its use, and has openly called for a public debate on the issue in light of the failure of the War on Drugs.

Former President of Mexico, the outspoken Vincente Fox; Chairman and CEO of the world’s largest legal Cannabis company, Canadian based, Canopy Growth, Bruce Linton; former US TV talk show celebrity Montel Williams, former Director of America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), R James Woolsey are among other high profile speakers at the Conference which runs from September 27 to 29.

Industry, Commerce and Agriculture Minister, Audley Shaw; President of JAMPRO, Diane Edwards and Senior Advisor/Strategist for Tourism and Cannabis Licensing Authority board Director, Delano Seiveright are among several Jamaican officials slated to speak at the conference.

Canex is an annual business-to-business (B2B) event that brings together cannabis industry experts from the US, Canada, South and Central America, Europe and other regions.
